NEMO PHASE 1 successfully deployed and operating in Catania

 On December 18 the NEMO Collaboration has successfully completed the sea operations for the deployment and connection of the NEMO Phase 1.

The operations have been carried out using the ship "Teliri" of the Elettra tlc company. The two components of the apparatus, a junction box and a four-storey tower, have been installed at a depth of 2100 m at the Catania underwater Test Site. The deployment operations have been carried out from December 9 to December 18.

First the junction box has been deployed close to the main electro-optical cable termination and then connected to the JB.

After a first test, that has proven the full functionality of the system, the tower has been unfurled and has reached its working configuration (100 m between the base and the first storey and 40 m between each storey).

The system has been powered up and since night of December 18 is in data acquisition.
